Only sheer luck and a series of miracles prevented a former world champion kickboxer from killing someone during a string of Melbourne high-speed police pursuits, the judge jailing him has said.

Gurkan Ozkan, 42, received a three-and-a-half year sentence over three car chases in which he reached speeds of up to 180km/h on suburban roads in Melbourne's east.

Ozkan was pursued on three occasions last year and early this year, the Victorian County Court heard on Monday.

During one of the chases, he rammed a car that was in his way and collided with several other vehicles.

He ran numerous red traffic lights during the pursuits, at least once at 180km/h.

Motorists swerved and slammed on the brakes to avoid his speeding car, while a young child had to be pulled from the road by their clothing, the court heard.
