As a key figure in the field, he developed the concept of intertextuality and became one of the founders of contemporary literary criticism.
Early Life and Education
Born in Paris, Genette pursued his studies at the prestigious École Normale Supérieure, graduating in 1955.
His academic career began at the Sorbonne from 1963-67, after which he moved to the École Pratique des Hautes Études. In 1994, he retired from teaching at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales.
